I find it kind of therapeutic, myself. Mom once speculated that it's the kind of attitude that lends itself well towards self-care, that you're in a better headspace if you can take the time to sit out and type out your thoughts in as random and rambling a fashion as you want.
All of which is actually to say that I totally feel you on needing to get used to it again. >_> It does take a mental adjustment.
I admit, I've only technically read the first trade paperback - I got it hugely on sale off of Comixology - but because I'm like that, I'm spoiled for damn near everything else. Which is why I'm probably going to go ahead and order both TPB's off of Amazon. Because I have problems.
Gotta say, I think DragonCon was the best place to read it, though. I discovered a couple of awesome bands there. "This Way To the Egress" would totally fit in in this series.
Yeah I totally agree with your Mom. I used to be on livejournal for a few years. It definitely feels better to write it all out, but tumblr is just not made for personal posts. (The only reason I'm still there is because fandoms haven't moved to a different site yet.)
Even with knowing all the spoilery bits, it's still a super satisfying read. There's just so much to look at and so much information to sort out, that even by being spoiled af you still get something out of it. (My mind is still reeling from the last issue and that was "just" re-sampled panels for the whole damn issue. Like. How do they even accomplish that.) (OMG also make sure, before you read #14, YOU READ SEX CRIMINALS. If you're not reading that already. I swear it's relevant. I want you to have the full experience, please please read Sex Criminals before you read #14. trust me on this.)
That's because fandom is friggin' lazy! *shakes fist at uncaring heavens* Back in my day, we ditched LJ for greener pastures!
(I'm pretty good at staying mobile, where social media is concerned. I ditched out of plurk when it was a thing, and was never more relieved.)
Seriously! It wasn't actually until I read TVTropes that I realized that the wheel they include between issues is significant and not just artistic. And then I went back and read through the entire plot with Luci and...oh. Damn.
And I am not reading Sex Criminals! Though I just went on a super massive binge of non-superhero comics off of Amazon, so that's probably something I'll start soon. Already I'm wondering what the two have to do with each other, but this time, I'll try to remain unspoiled.
As for "This Way to the Egress", put it like this - it's a band that consists of its members playing, variously, a tuba, a trombone, a banjo, a keyboard, a violin, and an accordion. And it works. They finished off the evening with a rousingly personalized rendition of "Show Me the Way to Go Home" that I was humming all the rest of the weekend.
Also, there's another band I saw called "Pandora Celtica" that I'm genuinely not sure isn't made up of supernatural beings. Like, that's their shtick, that they're faeries and such sent from their world to provide inspiration and entertainment to us mortals. And it's a story they stick to without really missing a beat. O_o
